The Department of Development Communication (DDC) began as a section of the then Department of Agricultural Development Education (DADE). It grew into a department in 1982 and started to offer the Bachelor of Science in Development Communication (BSDC) in 1986. In 1994, DDC started its Master of Science in Development Communication. DDC is the first institution in the Visayas to Development Communication as an academic program. In the Visayas State University (VSU) system, DDC is under the College of Agriculture.

The Department of Development Communication as center of excellence in development communication in the Visayas.

Mission
Enhancement of the general well-being of the Filipino people through effective development of manpower in development communication and generation of communication strategies for effective dissemination and application of relevant knowledge and technology.

Goals

  • Instruction and Learning: To provide excellent and relevant education in Development Communication.
  • Research: To generate new knowledge in development communication
  • Extension and Production: To foster functional cooperation within the institution and linkages with local, national and international media institutions and development agencies involved in the pursuit of sustainable development and people empowerment.
